Black Friday Oatmeal Stout

BeerIf you didn't know, I love stout beers. A good stout can be enjoyed all year long, but I like it even more in the winter. And to honor the people who have the Friday off after Thanksgiving, who decide not to sleep in like normal people, but instead, get up even earlier than they normally do during the week, I give thee my Black Friday Oatmeal Stout.Mash the following grains for 1.5 hours at 151?F:
  • 20 pounds 2 row Marris Otter Pale Malt.
  • 2 pounds Roasted Barley
  • 1 pound 60° Crystal Malt
  • 1 pound chocolate malt
  • 1 pound Flaked oats
    • Oven toasted at 450?F for 1 hour, turning every 15 minutes.
  • 1 pound Special B Malt
  • 4 ounces Black Patenetl Malt
After mash is done, bring to boil. Boil time is 60 minutes.
Add bittering hops for 60 minutes of the boil:
  • 3 oz Cascade Hops 5.5% alpha
  • 16 oz Malto Dextrine
After 50 minutes, add the following hops for the remaining 10 minutes of the boil:
  • 1 oz Williamette Hops 5.5% alpha
  • 1 oz Cascade hops 5.5% alpha
With 5 minutes remaining for the boil, add:
  • 1 oz Williamette Hops 5.5% alpha
  • 1 oz Cascade hops 5.5% alpha
Remove from heat, cool wort below 80?F and transfer to primary carboys. Pitch yeast:
  • Wyeast 1084 Irish Ale
Follow your own fermentation and clearing guidlines to your taste.
